A NOTE FROM THE NATIONAL SHOW CHAIRMAN

First and foremost, I must extend my sympathies to anyone who was unable to make the AIHR/HOA National Show this year. Not only did you miss out on the unique classes and speed events designed to showcase our Indian Horses and their heritage, not to mention the honor of being judged by Nanci Falley, Leana Westergaard, Liz Austin, and Gretchen Patterson conjointly, but you also missed the fun, fellowship, and love shared by the people who own and ride these magnificent horses.
We had a total of 62 entries this year of AIHR registered "O","AA","M", and "P" horses and HOA registered horses. Many might look at that number and gasp, particularly when compared to last years's record-breaking 84 entries. But perhaps people don't realize how truly terrible most of the horse market is right now: horse shows for more populous breeds, along with all horse events, are being cancelled left and right all across the country due to the weak economy. Combine that with the fact that the show was in a region that was hit the weekend before by Tropical Storm Ike, which left the arena with no power or water until the day before the show. Then you realize what a great turnout we really had. It just goes to show you that Indian Horse owners are proud of their horses, and love having the opportunity to show them off to the public; the sort of people who would make a point of having fun with their horses even if they were the only ones there. This trait in our members is amazing and one of the things that sets Indian Horse Shows apart from the rest. Thank you to everyone that was able to come and make it such a fun experience.
Of course, it takes more than just exhibitors to put on a show. Our Tejas and Foothills volunteers this year really made the show possible, and my job so much easier. There were people who went out of their way just to pitch in and help, and a few people who scratched their horses from events just to volunteer when it was needed. Outside the show, these people also took time out of their days to run pre-registration, organize awards, secure and clean-up the arena, layout the show program, and so much more. To everyone who volunteered their time and help, thank you so very much for helping everything to run so smoothly.
Also to be thanked is everyone who donated awards. We had some great awards this year, from plaques and ribbons to a $200 gift card to Tractor Supply Co. Thank you to everyone who donated an award and anyone who won an award is encouraged to contact whoever donated it and thank them as well. For information on award donations, please e-mail me at russianbluecat@yahoo.com.
And while this year went well, next year will be even better. Already discussions are beign held to make it run even quicker and safer next year. Many of the changes that were seen this year, including using Friday night for non-point classes and judging more than one halter class at a time, are likely making a comeback next year. So as we put this 27th Annual National Show in the record books, I encourage everyone to go ahead and be making plans for next year. The National is always on the 3rd weekend of September and will be held at Henderson, TX once again.

See you next year!!!
Now and Forever,
Tomlyn Grey
